PostSubject: Strange pressure headaches   Sat Feb 22, 2014 10:22 am

Hi, So I had a really unusual headache yesterday and last night and i wondered if anyone had ever had anything similar...

I had what felt like a pressure headache yesterday but different. When i have a pressure headache my sinuses really ache all the way through to my whole face and even down to my teeth. Then I can feel the mucus in my nose bubbling and popping. I get ringing in my ears and well as pressure on my ear canals and my ear drums pop. I also get pains in my temples and behind my eyes. And sharp transient pains in the top of my skull (all good fun) - so really its like everything is pushing outwards. as well as my usual forehead and back of the head and brain hurting.

Well yesterday I got all the pushing outwards symptoms with only minor forehead and back of head pain and none of the 'brain hurting' at all. It was still painful but not as all consuming as it usually is. I got on with things as best i could and had an early night but by 3am i was woken up by am almighty pain in the top of my skull - like someone had whacked the top of a boiled egg with a spoon - i still had the rest of the pressure symptoms and my 'brain' still wasnt hurting but the pain along the top of my skull was now a strong 7/10 - after about 45 minuets of trying unsuccessfully to convince myself that if i could get back to sleep i would be ok - i got up and dosed up on the strongest painkillers i can take. after about another 30 mins i was finally able to get back to sleep.

This morning I am back to where i was yesterday with the pressure symptoms - all be it with a bit more forehead headache actually. But It was all very weird and I havent had any headache specifically like that before. Then i was thinking that the UK has been having months of winter storms and for the last 2 days we have just got our first few days of warm sunny weather. (I only presented symptoms spring 13 and was diagnosed in November 13 so this is my first winter, maybe i wasnt used to the change in pressure??). So i checked the weather website and saw that a high pressure system had moved in - could it be the change in pressure doing this??? I know some people think they react to weather but has anyone had any similar type of change in symptoms???

I think you may indeed be onto something.  I noticed also that when a large weather front moves in my head feels different.  The one good thing (if you want to call it "good"), is that you can weather the daily weather forecasts and when a front is approaching you can prepare for it.  I find that if the front has not moved in by bedtime, I will really increase my pain meds, go to bed early, and hope to sleep through the big part of it.
Keep your observations in a log book.  As sensitive as you are, you may be able to really pin point your triggers.  It is good to have such a keen eye  ;)

well thanks for the reply - lets hope i am not that sensitive. I live in the UK after all, we are not exactly known for having stable weather.
If the strange headache (which i still have, and they are making my brain hurt now) is due to weather, i think maybe there must have be a significant and sudden pressure change to set it off?? so hopefully i wont react to every storm comes past?? (lol i hope not any way)
but i am keeping a diary of weather pressure now so one more piece of the puzzle to look out for as well as: what i eat, how much i sleep, did i do any gentle stretching, was i stressed, did i watch too much tv, did i drink enough, did i get my veg, was it the right veg, enough but not too much vitamins mind, watch out for the caffeine and mind the fairies at the bottom of the garden i think they are looking at me funny

sigh, my brain hurts

We do seem to be sensitive to certain migraines, I particularly suffer with Barometric headache when the atmospheric pressure is low and the weather is awful. As we have had storms for the past couple of weeks I've had them everyday. Have a look at our guide to headaches that we commonly experience A-Z of headaches commonly experienced with IIH Keep a symptom log and it should help you to narrow down which if any you experience apart from a high pressure one.

The second line of my journal is for the weather, I am very sensitive to barometric pressure changes, especially sudden spikes or dips. It seems for me, the faster the rise or drop the worse the pain. Unfortunately there isn't much you can do about the fairs in the garden, if they were brownies, you could leave them a bowl of milk.

Betsy it's so lovely to see you again. hug Indeed we seem to suffer terribly with the weather, and I've found that taken my pain relief as soon as it starts and a nice cold cloth on my forehead and eyes does offer some relief. However, if the weather has been raging all through the night, it's a struggle to get on top of the headache and the other effects.

LOL Betsy I didnt think anyone was going to get my sense of humor   Very Happy
and do you know i think you might be right, it was a very high pressure ridge that moved in very suddenly, so i think big rapid change might be the key, because the uk weather is all over the place normally but not normally very massive rapid pressure changes.

Yes, weather and pressure changes are a huge trigger for me too! I use different mudras and breathing techniques with a hit of caffeine to take the edge off, but there doesn't seem to be much we can do. I keep shiny objects in the garden to distract the fairies, brownies are a little more mischievous so the milk may be a better solution ; )

Good luck!

You people are wonderful.  You described a headache I get to a "T".  My doc has sent me for sinus scans thinking that it was related to my sinuses instead of weather and IHH.  These headaches do come and go and they effect my sight when I have them.  I have had one over the past week with our spring storms.   Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!
