PostSubject: Anyone ever feel slow/trapped?   Fri Aug 10, 2012 2:14 pm

Hey guys,

Just wanted to ask a question. More than a few times I have found myself standing in front of my stove unable to turn it off while food is burning; slow to react. Eventually I do it but it takes longer than it should. This morning my husband made himself a cup of coffee and went outside to read the paper before he went to work. I usually follow him right out. I just stood there for several minutes unable to move; almost frozen in time as they say. After 5 to 6 minutes he opened the door and asked are you alright. I finally took a few steps and then I was ok. I just felt frozen in time. Anyone else find themselves doing this? Also the other day I bent over to remove laundry out of the dryer and saw bright gold flashes of light with dimmed vision. Anyone else find themselves doing this? I am tired of the back and forth with neuro. I am waiting on word from John's Hopkins neuro clinic bc I am holding out hope they can help me. My neurologist dismisses my symptoms many times as "no big deal this happens all the time". It leaves me feeling uneasy. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!! Help

Yes - this happens to me all the time. Everyone has learnt to live with my 'funny moments.' In fact they don't last as long as I feel they do. Its usually only one or two minutes and yet it feels like much longer. It often happens when I am asked something and I can't reply. I know what I want to say and I can't say it.

I don't get gold flashes but I do get lightening like visual disturbances and dimmed blobs that drift over my vision. I asked the neuro about this and he didn't seem concerned.

Hope that makes you feel a little less on your own Smile

Advice from our Partner The Brain and Spine Foundation via Twitter.

Brain & Spine help‏@brainspine

@IHaveIIH Hi, nurse thinks connected to changing pressures at back of brain & around optic nerve. Perhaps easier if beautifulb emails us?

I know they are in the UK but I'm sure they would be more than happy to answer your email. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].

Absolutely! The visual changes when bending over and slow recall are typical, but still frustrating and annoying..lol. Even w/ my working shunt I have moments I can't speak or say the wrong word and lose vision when I bend over at times. For me the clumbsiness was the worst..I dropped things and tripped over my own feet on a daily basis. You are definitely not alone, but it does probably mean either your pressure is up or you're having side effect from meds (which can make symptoms worse). If your neuro won't help, do you have a good relationship w/ GP or ophthalmologist? They can also adjust meds or order LP until you can get to John's Hopkins. Try a quick cup of coffee or soda..caffeine stimulates the central nervs system and constricts blood vessels, so you're more alert and get more oxygen to your brain.

I hope you find some relief soon!
Take care,
hug
Julie

I definitely understand that feeling of trapped or stuck. It happened a while ago while I was driving with a little one in back my I remember trying to tell myself come on come on concentrate I made it home OK thank fully. But over the weekend I was just feeling weird everything felt slow and I felt like I was stuck in my own head trying to get out. Now the pressure has been brought down again I feel alot better. But I completely understand where u are coming from it's not nice at all.

hope u get it sorted soon. ;)

HAHAHA! I get this ALL the time! Someone will say something to me, and I'll be quiet for a minute or two, then go.."what?"

Or when I'm doing daily things...took me almost 3 minutes to put my pants on today.
